Developmental/ Substantive Edit

This edit is designed to help an author through from a rough manuscript through to a final manuscript ready to be copyedited by improving the organization and content.

There are many elements to this edit including an in depth analysis of character development, thematic elements, plot development and consistency, overall organization, and a glimpse at writing mechanics. Since EditElle does not provide a separate line editing service, this edit will also introduce you to certain stylistic elements in parts of your manuscript. The stylistic components of this edit clarify meaning, eliminate jargon, guide suggested language to suit the “voice,” and correct other mechanical line-by-line errors. It clarifies, re-organizes, revises, and cuts a manuscript’s content and structure through suggestion and collaboration with the author. Also known as substantive editing, manuscript editing, content editing, or structural editing.
