Proofread

“Editing might be a bloody trade, but knives aren’t the exclusive property of butchers. Surgeons use them too.” – Blake Morrison

A proofread analyzes proofs of formatted, edited material for adherence to design and for minor mechanical errors in copy.

Duplications, deletions, spelling, typos, punctuation, spacing, and grammar are all analyzed at this level according to the preferred style sheet/manual of style. If a preferred style guide is not requested, The Chicago Manual of Style will be used. Spelling is adapted to the English variation of the author’s choice (British English, American English, etc.), with a focus on internal consistency. EditElle wants to ensure that your manuscript is as clean as possible and meticulously reads each letter, space, and mark of punctuation throughout the body of the story as well as the front and back matter, chapter titles, and cover. *Your manuscript must already be formatted to be considered a proofread.*
